House Notes on Tampa Bay Downs

How the score is built. Each horse's four category numbers are combined using your weights — none of the categories scores in isolation. A horse can win on Pace and Snapshot alone if you weight those highly; a horse with a 95 Speed/Class but a 30 Snapshot will still rate well if Speed is weighted heavily.

Reading the scale. Most data sources give absolute 0–100 ratings: 80+ is a serious contender, 60–80 is in the mix, below 50 is up against it. Blank cells score as 50 (neutral) so a horse with sparse data isn't punished, just not boosted.

Track context to keep in mind. Tampa is a one-mile dirt oval with a 990-foot stretch — speed and tactical position matter, deep closers need a contested pace. The 7-furlong turf course is tight; outside posts on turf are a real handicap. None of this is in the score automatically — fold it into your Pace number when entering data.

Weight intuitions. In maiden races, Speed/Class often dominates because form is sparse — bump it. In claimers, Jockey/Trainer angles matter more — bump them. In stakes with established horses, Snapshot tells most of the story. Reset to defaults whenever you want a balanced read.
